Bill was a good boy and got some treats

Mr. Smith went to Washington, but comedian Bill Maher went to the White House.

Congratulations, Bill Maher. You found the bottom of your barrel.

Bill said he went to the White House for dinner with the president because he and his buddy, Kid Rock, thought there was something better to be done “than hurl insults from 3,000 miles away.”

I won’t bore you with every detail — you can watch Bill’s monologue for yourself if you’d like — but it boils down to them having a lovely, engaging evening and Mr. Trump being quite charming.

Ah, charm.

My mother’s husband was a cruel man with a terrifying temper, but boy could he be the most charming farmer at a church picnic or when we had folks over for Sunday supper.

A friend’s ex-husband was an absolute monster to his family, as well as a pathological liar, but he was a good storyteller at big dinners, had a captivating smile and a big laugh. Super charming!

I have sat in many a lawmaker’s office — politicians are quite charming — and later wondered, when watching their public or online behavior, how they could possibly be the same person.

Does Bill have internet access out there in Los Angeles?

Google Ted Bundy. “Known as the charming, charismatic killer who stalked young women to commit his unspeakable crimes, Ted Bundy left a dark shadow on America's history that has haunted our collective consciousness for generations.”

Google Josef Stalin. "A charming man, a superb manager of men, a manipulator who used charm to build his power.”

Today, the president with whom Bill broke bread is refusing an order based on a 9-0 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court and joking about sending U.S. citizens to a foreign prison. The rule of law be damned.

Today he also said offhandedly of the press, while in the Oval Office with the president of El Salavor, “these are sick people.”

He continues to float the idea that he can run for an unconstitutional 3rd term while threatening lawsuits against everyone from CBS to law firms to former government employees whom he sees as personal enemies.

He’s pulled security detail off everyone from John Bolton to General Mark Milley – to do what? Make them less safe for fun?

The president who so charmed Bill Maher recently pardoned more than 1,500 January 6 rioters who stormed the capitol, at his urging, to stop the certification of a free and fair election while he watched it all unfold on TV and did nothing, for hours, to stop it.

And he did this, according to reports, in the very dining room where Bill was so bowled over with charm.

Bill is not required to “hurl insults” as he mentioned in the opening sentences of his monologue. Bill hurls insults as part of his comedy routine … which is why he went to the White House … to bolster his TV show … which makes him money.

The president also hurls insults on TV for money.

The bottom of the barrel must be where all the money is, right next to the charm.
