Governor Andy Beshear has added former Senate candidate Charles Booker to his administration.
Booker will head up the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and Community Involvement, which was created by the legislature in 2005. The statute creating it (KRS 12.510) states that the mission of the office is to “establish policies, priorities, and practices in the executive branch to enable and expand social service programs of faith-based and community nonprofit organizations to the extent permitted by law.”
The appointment was one of several announced by the governor’s office on Friday.
Booker, who has run for U.S. Senate twice, including against Rand Paul in 2022, is a former state representative from Louisville. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville, earning both a degree in political science and a law degree.
Booker himself also announced the appointment on his Twitter feed.
