In the coming months, the Kentucky Democratic Party will go through a bottom-up reorganization, a process where all of the precinct, county, and state committees are re-elected.  So, if you’ve ever:

  • Wanted to see Democrats do more to engage and mobilize voters in your community and across the Commonwealth;
  • Wanted to be a Party leader at the local or state level; and/or
  • Are committed to electing more Democrats who will create a better future for every Kentucky family …

Then now is the time to get involved. Reorganization gives all Democrats the opportunity to build our party and create a permanent infrastructure for the success of future Democratic candidates.

The process begins with Precinct Conventions, during which a committee of 3 people is elected: one man, one woman, and a youth member (40 or younger). You can nominate yourself or another Democrat in your precinct. Winning requires getting the most votes from fellow voters within your precinct, all of whom have to show up on Precinct Convention day to cast their ballot.

The process is the same for Legislative District (only in Fayette and Jefferson counties) and County Conventions, where Legislative District Committees and County Executive Committees are chosen.  Later, the State Central Executive Committee, which represents all 6 Congressional Districts and helps advise the KDP, will be selected.

From Precinct Committees to the State Central Executive Committee, the purpose behind each role is the same: grow and strengthen the Democratic infrastructure within your community. This means each Committee member, at every level, will be the chief organizers in their area, engaging with voters year-round, recruiting more volunteers and more votes for Democrats up and down the ballot along the way.

Now, more than ever, we need Democrats willing to step up and do the work to ensure we protect our neighbors and our future.

How to get involved

  • Decide at what level you want to be involved:
    • Focused on your neighborhood?  Precinct Committee or Legislative District Committee.
    • Want to help implement and execute a larger organizing, candidate recruitment and communications strategy?  County Executive Committee.
    • Interested in building statewide coalitions? State Central Executive Committee.
  • Contact your county party Chair (the list is here)
    • Tell them at what level you’d like to participate and ask them how to get involved in reorganization.
    • Show up, bring (registered Democrat) friends from your precinct/LD/county and get votes to win!

Don’t sit on the sideline – get involved in your local party by taking part in the KDP Reorg!
