The September “Voice of the Commonwealth” poll asked a simple question: What should Andy Beshear do next?

The poll was open to all members of Forward Kentucky for about two weeks, and the results were pretty conclusive: run for Mitch McConnell’s Senate seat in 2026.

And, if he doesn’t do that, he should run for Rand Paul’s seat in 2028.

It seems the Kentuckians want Beshear in the U.S. Senate.

Forms response chart. Question title: Rank your choices. Number of responses: .

Here are some of the comments that accompanied the responses:

  • We really badly need him to replace Mitch or Rand Paul first. I believe he can do it. Kentucky needs that. A few years after that, I would love to see him run for President.
  • If Andy isn’t offered a position with Harris then running for Mitch’s seat would be the logical option. Being in the Harris admin would enhance his overall experience and give an even better chance of taking Mitch’s seat. Not that I don’t think he would be a good President but the field by then might be crowded.
  • We need to start growing a Dem. candidate for 2027 KY governor now.
  • I do not want another Beshear/Cameron rematch. Pretty sure Daniel has his eyes on Mitch’s seat.
  • He should finish his term as Governor. Running for Mitch’s seat or joining the cabinet before 2028 would break that. He shouldn’t plan to run in 2028 because Kamala should be running for reelection then. He has an opportunity as a senator to become this generation’s Wendell Ford for Kentucky Democrats and build a statewide network to get other Dems elected across the state.
  • Beshear needs to rebuild the Kentucky Democrats!
  • These are all based on a President Harris. Otherwise, I would pick "other" - Move to Denmark.

Watch for the next VotC survey in early October!
