LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Starbucks baristas at the Holiday Manor location filed a petition for a union election today, joining a growing movement of workers nationwide calling for a voice on the job at the coffee giant.
With their election filing with the National Labor Relations Board, the Starbucks partners at Holiday Manor are coming together with 10,500 baristas across the country who are united to win justice at work, including protections on core issues like respect, living wages, racial and gender equity, and fair scheduling. The baristas of Starbucks Workers United have powered a “winning streak” of organizing, with 80+ election wins this year alone. Workers explained why they are organizing in a letter to the CEO, Laxman Narasimhan.
“After being ignored, being met with dismissive responses, and having unrealistic goals set upon us; we made the nearly unanimous decision to form a union and join Starbucks Workers United. We hope to return our store to a manageable state; where everyone working has reasonable hours, benefits, expectations and where our voices are heard. With Starbucks Workers United, we see our goals within reach, and we’re all excited to join them,” said Thomas Parsons (he/him), a shift supervisor of 8 years.
The election filing in Louisville is one of 13 so far this week as momentum continues to grow for Starbucks Workers United from coast to coast, with more filings to come throughout July.

Today’s filing follows dozens of victories in which workers voted to join Starbucks Workers United in Mississippi, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Florida, California, and more in recent weeks. Since Starbucks partners first joined together to form a union in 2021, workers at more than 460 Starbucks stores have won union elections with the NLRB in 44 states and the District of Columbia. The historic organizing campaign hinges on peer-to-peer organizing led by workers, for workers – and has won election after election in stores nationwide.
The news comes as union-represented partners and Starbucks continue making progress toward a foundational framework for store contracts. Workers United and Starbucks announced a major breakthrough on a path forward in late February, kicking off historic negotiations. The parties are working toward ratified contracts for represented stores by the end of the year.
