Monica Dean, a Democrat and Navy veteran, has entered the race for the U.S. House of Representatives Kentucky Congressional District 4 seat.
The seat is currently occupied by incumbent Thomas Massie, a Republican who has held the seat since 2012.
“Our communities deserve a representative who is present, principled and focused on the real issues facing Kentucky families,” said Dean in a press release. “That’s why I’m running to end corruption in Congress and shift the focus back to everyday Americans. From protecting access to reproductive health care to standing up for working families and public education, I’m running to be a voice for all of KY-4 — not just the loudest fringe.”
Originally from Ohio, Dean joins the race with Villa Hills resident Jesse Brewer (not this Jesse Brewer), a Democrat who filed a statement of spending intent with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance on May 1. Brewer plans to launch his campaign later this week. Niki Lee Ethington, a Republican from Spencer County, also entered the race in April.
Dean’s campaign platform will focus on “strengthening supports for veterans, defending public education, protecting affordable healthcare and pushing forward family-focused policies that make raising a family in KY-4 safer and more affordable,” according to her press release.
She will hold a campaign kick-off event on June 29 in Crestwood.
