Lexington, KY – Peaceful Bluegrass Resistance (PBR) plans to welcome Andy Barr with a protest when he arrives for the Bourbon County Republicans’ Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday in Millersburg, KY. The dinner is being held at Mustard Seed Hill, on Main Street.
PBR members will express their displeasure with the Congressman’s performance by decorating their cars with signs and banners, and parking them along both sides of Main Street in front of the venue. They will then hold a peaceful protest across the street on the lawn of the Millersburg City Hall from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
The group is dismayed by Barr’s aligning himself with Trump's agenda, refusing to meet his constituents, and his allegations that protesters are paid professionals.
“Barr has been avoiding his constituents, ducking Town Halls, and accusing protesters of being paid agitators. We intend to show him that nobody has to pay us – we’re happy to protest his abysmal lack of leadership for free!” said group founder Dr. Craig Blair.
This protest is one of more than 50 that Peaceful Bluegrass Resistance has organized or co-organized in the past three and a half months. They have been holding ongoing street protests at some of Lexington's busiest intersections since Trump took office.
PBR has also cooperated with groups like 50501 Kentucky, Progress Kentucky, 120 United-AFT, Gathering for Democracy, and Bluegrass Activist Alliance on events like April's “No Kings Then, No Kings Now” demonstration. Their Facebook group has more than 2,400 members and is steadily growing.
“Highly visible street protests send the message that all of us should be concerned about what is happening now,” says Blair. “We all have a lot at stake, and we all need to get involved and work to stop the destruction of our federal workforce, our institutions, and our democracy.”
The group's three weekly protests are:
- Mondays 7:30-9:30 am near Mitch McConnell's office at the intersection of Harrodsburg and New Circle Roads;
- Thursdays 4:00-6:00 pm at the intersection of Nicholasville and Reynolds Roads;
- Saturdays 1:00-3:00 pm at the intersection of Sir Barton Way and Man o’ War.
