FYI for all members and readers: I’ll be on a panel Thursday night in Owensboro.
The event is the Legislation Report Card Forum, and is being put on by the Daviess County Democratic Party. The forum kicks off at 6:30 PM Central at the Holiday Inn Riverfront at 701 West 1st Street in Owensboro.
Larry Miller, the former vice-president of development for Owensboro Community and Technical College, will be the emcee. Panelists include:
- Lori Thurman, Coordinator of Equity & Inclusion, Title IX Coordinator at Kentucky Wesleyan College and an experienced teacher
- Kevin Walton, recording secretary for KY AFL-CIO, a registered lobbyist for them and an electrician
- Bruce Maples, publisher of Forward Kentucky
Each of us will focus on certain aspects of the recent legislative session. According to the McLean County News:
- Maples will discuss bills the legislature either discussed or passed during the season. Those bills include state budget bills and a bill to make sleeping outside in public places a crime.
- Walton will discuss several workers’ rights bills such as extended child labor hours and the proposal to eliminate required lunch and break periods, along with a new law allowing driverless semi-trucks on Kentucky highways.
- Thurman will talk about the legislature’s attempt to prohibit diversity programs in state agencies or at schools and universities.
The event will last until about 8 PM, and is free and open to the public.
